ETHOS AND APPROACH

My writing and meditation retreats are designed to support your creative practice by deepening three fundamental forms of connection: to self, to community, and to the natural world.

Each morning, you will write in the companionable silence of new friends. In the afternoons, there is space to share work, encourage one another’s writing, and reflect together.

Alongside this, meditation practice, digital detox, and community circles create the conditions for a different quality of attention than we might usually allow.

This matters because life under capitalism is intentionally structured to alienate us: first from ourselves and then from one another.

We look at the world and see profound suffering and injustice, yet often feel powerless to intervene.

Through work, technology, consumerism, and the many distractions on offer, there are countless ways to numb ourselves while remaining at a distance from what we actually feel.

A retreat offers a different way of being. You will be supported to develop a deeper intimacy with the full range of experience: joy, sorrow, anger, grief, fear, boredom, beauty, and delight.

This is not separate from writing, but central. Only what has been truly felt by a writer can also be felt by a reader. On retreat, writing is allowed to become fully alive.

You may hope your work will be published and read widely. Or you may be writing for a smaller, more intimate circle: friends, family, comrades, or your community.

Whatever the scale of your imagined audience, these retreats are grounded in a simple belief: you deserve to write, and you deserve to be read.

If this resonates and calls to you, I would love to welcome you on a future retreat.
